Lovable vs v0
Lovable and v0 both turn a prompt into a working web app. Lovable bundles backend, auth and hosting; v0 builds Next.js apps that ship on Vercel. If you're also weighing Bolt.new, we cover where it fits below.

Backend: built in vs plugged in
Lovable's biggest difference is Lovable Cloud, a backend that comes with every project: a database you can browse and query with SQL, user sign-in (email, phone, Google, Apple, Microsoft and SAML SSO), file storage, edge functions and scheduled jobs. Ask for a sign-up flow or an orders table and Lovable builds it in the same place it builds the UI. If you already use Supabase, you can connect it instead.
v0 takes the Vercel route. Your app is a Next.js project, and data comes from services you add through the Vercel Marketplace, with one-click integrations for Neon, Supabase, Upstash and Vercel Blob, plus Stripe for payments. v0 can also use tools from connected integrations and MCP servers while it builds, for example to inspect your database schema. That's more flexible, but you're assembling the stack instead of getting it bundled.
Editing, workflow and code ownership
Both are chat-first, and both let you take your code with you. Lovable syncs two ways with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, so a developer can keep working in Cursor or Claude Code while you keep prompting. Lovable's pricing page also states that you own the code and apps you build. For bigger changes, Plan mode writes a plan you can review and approve before anything is edited.
v0 leans further into developer workflows. Connect a GitHub repo and v0 works on branches, shows the pull request and CI status, and offers to fix a failing build or CI run before you publish. Design mode lets you click any element in the live preview and adjust it with a visual panel, and the change is written back to your source code. You can export the code and deploy elsewhere, though v0's docs note the full experience (environment variables, previews, deployments) comes from connecting a Vercel project.
How the pricing models differ
Both have a free plan and both bill by usage, but they count it differently. Lovable prices plans by credits, not seats: everyone in a workspace shares one credit pool. The free plan includes 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month). Small edits can cost under one credit while bigger features cost more, and Plan mode costs 1 credit per message.
v0's free plan allows 7 messages a day and still includes Vercel deploys, Design mode and GitHub sync. Its paid team plans are priced per user and include $30 of monthly credits per user, with usage measured in tokens at rates that depend on the v0 model you pick. Pricing changes often, so check Lovable pricing and v0 pricing before you commit.
Where Bolt.new fits
If your shortlist is Lovable vs Bolt.new vs v0, Bolt.new sits between the two. Like Lovable, it builds a full app from a prompt in the browser; like v0, it suits people who want to get closer to the code, with a real in-browser dev environment, file and terminal access, and support for several JavaScript frameworks. We cover that matchup in Lovable vs Bolt.new. Replit and Base44 are other prompt-to-app builders worth a look, and you can browse them all in AI app builders.
Our take for vibe coders shipping an MVP
For a first MVP that needs accounts, a database and payments, Lovable gets you to a live link with fewer moving parts. For a product where the interface is the product, or a team already shipping Next.js on Vercel, v0 is the better fit. Many builders prototype the UI in one and keep refining the code in an editor like Cursor.
Either way, the rest of your stack looks similar. See our recommended MVP stack for auth, payments, deploys and email, or browse the full AI tools directory. Building a tool for vibe coders yourself? Get it featured on Stackdrop.
Verdict
Choose Lovable
Pick Lovable if you want the shortest path from idea to a live app with sign-in and data, without wiring up separate services.
Choose v0
Pick v0 if you think in React components, want fine visual control over your UI, and already deploy on Vercel or prefer a pull-request workflow.
FAQ
- Is v0 free?
- Yes. v0 has a free plan with a daily message limit (7 messages a day when we checked) that still includes deploying to Vercel, Design mode and GitHub sync. Paid plans add monthly credits and access to all models.
- Does v0 have a built-in backend like Lovable Cloud?
- Not in the same way. v0 builds full-stack Next.js apps and connects databases such as Neon, Supabase and Upstash through Vercel Marketplace integrations. Lovable includes a database, auth, storage and edge functions in its own backend.
- Can I move my code out of Lovable or v0?
- Yes. Lovable has two-way sync with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket. v0 has a two-way GitHub integration and lets you export code to work locally or deploy elsewhere.
- Which is better for non-developers?
- Lovable is usually easier, because sign-in, data and hosting come in one product. v0 is approachable for UI work, but knowing React and Next.js helps once you go beyond the interface.
- Lovable vs v0 vs Bolt.new: which should I try first?
- Match it to your bottleneck: Lovable for a fast full-stack MVP, v0 for polished Next.js UI on Vercel, Bolt.new for a hands-on in-browser dev environment. All three have free plans, so building the same small app in each is the quickest way to decide.
